WALK THE WALK

Back in June 2004 Julie watched a documentary hosted by Victoria Wood about a huge group of women walking through the streets of London in the dead of the night, wearing decorated bra's all with one purpose in mind, to raise money for Breast Cancer,  we both spoke about the programme for quite a while and also about the ladies that we knew, friends family and colleagues, that had the disease and how it can effect anyone any time, we had already had a scare in our immediate family with cancer so we knew first hand how it can effect people. Well from that hour long documentary and our talking Julie and I decided that we wanted to do our bit to help in the fight to find cure, so we decided that we would take part in the following years Moon Walk!! So began our quest to raise money and get fit for the mammoth task. Any of you that have seen us out at shows know that neither of us are model fit but we were going to do this for the ladies we knew and the millions that we didn't, but who knows in the years to come if either of us would need that medical attention for our selves, we had to do our bit.

To cut a long story - and boy is it long!!!! - we applied for and got a place and after months of walking the streets of Ystradgynlais to Ammanford we did it!  With the help of you our customers, visitors to the Hobby Craft shows and other exhibitors at the shows we raised just over £1500 and we are hoping to do it all again.

A great big huge Thank You to all of you helped raise that money and gave us the encouragement to walk the 26.2 miles, its an experience that I know I will never forget and we are both hoping to repeat again knowing that we are united and walking for such a wonderful cause.

If you would like to help support this worthwhile cause by purchasing any of the following all monies will be passed onto Walk the Walk.

As many of you know Julie did not complete the challenge that first year due to a very painful sciatica problem returning but she was determined to complete the challenge this year, albeit the 1/2 marathon.  So when the application forms came out last November we were online at 9am to complete them, not only did I fill one in for me but having talked my partner into doing the challenge with us I processed an application for him, I don't think he thought I would remember so he was a bit taken aback when I presented him with his "bra pack"!

Well we all set off together but soon got separated, Julie to finish her 1/2 marathon and Clive and I to walk on for the full marathon, which we all completed in record times.

Clive and I also took part in the "Sunwalk", which was only a half marathon (13.1 miles), walking the streets of Bristol this time but we put our best foot forward and strode out with all the other walkers of all ages once again united in one thought, raising money for Breast Cancer and cancer awareness. This time I have to tell you that Clive was the talk of the walk wearing a glitter pink belly dancing outfit, not sure I am able to post any pictures, but trust me, he looked great!

Next year - 2007 - is the tenth year that Walk the Walk has been doing the challenge and we will be there again, kitted out and fighting fit to complete another challenge, and yes, my partner Clive will be there donning his pink glitter outfit again!
