HINTS AND TIPS ON USING POLY PAPER

Poly paper is a form of shrink plastic, except it is much thinner, looks like paper, can be torn like paper, you can stamp on it like paper, colour it like paper and then shrink it like shrink plastic, but, and this is a BIG BUT, it doesn't shrink like shrink plastic, it doesn't go thick or hard. It is very very light weight. So what can you do with it? Well read on and I will try and give you some inspiration!

1. For those of you who like to put beads onto your cards you know how heavy they can be, well you can make beads from Poly Paper! Cut a 3" square from the paper, stamp a design onto it using abstract stamps or parts of stamps, add colour using pencils or inks. Unlike shrink plastic the colour will not intensify so you can use darker shades of colour on your Poly Paper. When done, cut your square in half diagonally, so you have two triangles, take a cocktail stick and starting on the long side start to wrap the triangle around the stick, when happy add a touch of glue to secure the tip, just so that it wont spring open. Now apply heat from your heat tool and start to shrink. The bead will shrink around the cocktail stick and become tighter and begin to harden, heat for about a minute then stop, remove the cocktail stick when cool, thread some wire through and decorate with some tiny beads. Attach to your card with adhesive or punch a hole and attach with a jump ring. If you want smaller/larger beads, adjust the size of the square you initially start with.

2. Poly paper also makes a nice segment to a collage card. Again stamp and colour the paper, but this time when you start to shrink, manipulate the paper with your fingers, scrunch it up and pull out of shape, you can do just about anything you like with it because unlike regular shrink plastic, Poly paper doesn't thicken. Also as Poly paper is so lightweight it will not add any more weight to your project. Because you can tear this paper, you could colour it first then tear off strips to leave a white torn edge. Another good thing about this paper is that you can attach it to your art work using brads or eyelets.
